South West Arts Literary Konnections

SWALK09 was conceived in a traffic jam caused by a sudden snow fall in late October 2008. Stationary in snow, that not even my gutsy Skoda could penetrate, my mind drifted to thoughts of summer in Bridport - the idea of a festival - a summer celebration - a two day event. By the time I moved off I had mentally concocted a full programme and was turning down performers! SWALK09 could have easily ended its life on the cutting room floor, but for my decision to approach Gabby at the newly renovated and reopened Electric Palace. She thought the idea was brilliant.

So here we are! A moderately priced weekend of delights - for women only! An indulgence - a tiptoe through the arts - a celebration of the rich diversity of womanhood to be experienced through workshops - art, vocal, poetry and performances - comedy, poetry, music, dance, drumming, film and talks. There are plenty of places to visit, stay and eat (check the Useful Stuff) and Bridport is handy for the coast. Don't miss the lively Saturday Market and also the SWALK09 exhibition at the Bridport Town Hall crammed with art, jewellery, textiles books etc.
